ICU Medical plans to close Oakdale facility, lay off 83 employees
ICU Medical will close its service and distribution facility in Oakdale by the end of the year and lay off its remaining 83 employees.
The San Clemente, Calif.-based medical-device company notified the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and Oakdale Mayor Kevin Zabel on Tuesday that the layoffs at the facility, located at 3350 Granada Ave. N., Suite 100, will begin in September.
“This action is expected to be permanent,” company officials said in a letter to the state, required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. “This action is taking place after the company’s thorough analysis of its operations at the facility and the company’s larger U.S. service footprint.”
The company last year announced that it was closing its manufacturing plant and laying off 81 employees, so “this wasn’t a complete surprise,” Zabel said.
“Although it is hard news anytime a community sees manufacturing jobs like this disappear, we received a similar notice in August 2023 announcing the wind-down of operations here in Oakdale before” the end of this year, he said.
City officials, however, were not told at that time how many total employees ICU Medical had or when additional layoffs would occur, Zabel said.
ICU Medical bills itself as a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture and sale of innovative medical devices.
