Boston Police seize 9 more mopeds in city crackdown
Police seized nine more mopeds in the recent crackdown on illegal vehicle operations in the downtown areas.
With the addition of the 13 mopeds seized on July 8 in Back Bay, Monday’s seizure of nine in Downtown Crossing brings the two-week total to 22.
“The Boston Police Department would like to remind everyone that vehicles are strictly prohibited in the Downtown Crossing pedestrian zone. This area is designated for pedestrian use only to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors,” the Boston Police Department wrote in a Tuesday statement.
Officers were dispatched a little after 5 p.m. on Monday to the intersection of Franklin and Washington streets downtown “on a directed foot-patrol to stop all motorcycles and/or mopeds operating in the pedestrian zone of Washington St. where no vehicles are authorized to travel in.”
Officers issued verbal warnings, citations and one summons for various motor vehicle law infractions.
Police say that additional pedestrian zones where motorized traffic is barred include the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall.
