Heat wave: High temperatures headed for Boston this week
The Boston area’s sweltering temps will continue blazing through the first half of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
“Heat advisory goes in effect starting tomorrow and then lasts through Wednesday,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Pederson. “We’re expecting heat indices of 95 to 105 degrees basically every day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Its definitely going to be a hot and humid week.”
The Boston region will see sweltering highs in the upper 90s through Wednesday, NWS forecasts show, with partly cloudy to mostly sunny days and high humidity.
The heat advisory will go into effect at 8 a.m. Monday for at least parts of Worcester, Middlesex, Suffolk, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties in Massachusetts. The advisory warns of heat index values up to 102 degrees.
“If you spend any time outdoors, make sure to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated,” said Pederson. “Go indoors or in shaded areas. Try to cool off indoors, try to get in an air conditioning building. Limit your time in the sun.”
Additionally, the advisory lays out recommends extra precautions when outside, checking up on relatives and neighbors at risk, knowing the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and calling 911 for anyone suffering heat stroke.
Boston has seen a relatively hot summer so far this year, Pederson said, noting that the average maximum temperature in June was 80.1 degrees compared to the typical average of 76.2 degrees for the area.
A “cool down” is expected later in the week and may last through Saturday or into Sunday, Pederson said.
