More Democrats waiting on Biden to make a decision he says he’s made

Even though he’s made clear he has no intention of leaving the race for the White House — despite his abysmal performance at the first presidential debate — if the president is going to cut bait and run he better do it soon, according to U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Speaking to MSNBC on Monday, the former speaker and top ranking House Democrat said that the decision on whether to stay or go is up to President Joe Biden alone, but that time is running short for the party to fill his shoes, should that be necessary.

“I want him to do whatever he decides to do,” she said, before adding “we’re all encouraging him to make that decision, because time is running short.”

Pelosi’s assertion is especially notable, as earlier this week Biden was speaking on the same news program, when he made clear in no-uncertain terms he wouldn’t step down unless “the Almighty” makes him.

The former speaker’s non-endorsement of Biden’s continued campaign, however, adds to a growing list of Democratic lawmakers not entirely on the Biden-bandwagon anymore, following his perception-altering debate performance at the end of June.

Colorado’s U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, who briefly ran against Biden in 2020’s Democratic Primary, on Tuesday became the first Democratic member of the U.S. Senate to say it’s time for the 81-year-old to admit he cannot win Trump after showing the public the face he did at the debate.

“I’m sure President Biden has a different view of his prospects in this election than I do. But we should be having a discussion about that,” he

Connecticut’s U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal piled on this Wednesday, also telling CNN that he’s “deeply concerned” about Biden chances against the 45th President.

“We have to reach a conclusion as soon as possible,” Blumenthal said.
