Crime roundup: Drug trafficking, unlawful firearm possession arrests in Boston

A Brockton man was arrested on drug trafficking charges when Boston police came across a car suspected in an out of state armed robbery.

Officers patrolling near Morton Street saw a car with dark-tinted windows and a registration indicating to police the car was wanted for an armed robbery in Rhode Island. Police conducted a pat frisk of the driver, identified as Paulo Barbosa, 23, and found a large plastic bag filled with suspected drugs.

The bag contained seven plastic bags with suspected fentanyl totaling 16.6 grams, 22 alleged fentanyl pills, 53 plastic bags of suspected crack cocaine which weighed around 41.5 grams, and $520 police said. Barbosa was arrested and charged with Trafficking of Class A and Class B.

His arraignment is scheduled in Dorchester Court.

Also over the weekend, a pair of firearms were also seized by the Boston Police Department’s Anti-Crime Units. The unit’s South End District arrested Mattapan resident Danielson Jeudy, 18, and a 16-year-old male on Saturday on firearm charges and warrants, officials said.

Officers patrolling near Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street witnessed a group of three people crossing the street, discovering one had a warrant out for his arrest. Police noticed one male “clutching an object in his waistband” and the male with the active warrant out sprinted towards Northampton Street.

After apprehending the male with the active warrant, police saw the one grabbing at his waistband duck under a car. They ultimately arrested him and found a Keltec P11 with a scratched-off serial number under the car.

The juvenile was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juevnile Court.

Jeudy was arrested for an active warrant for charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Shoplifting over $250 and Removal of a Theft Detection Device. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

The unit’s Mattapan district also arrested Dorchester resident Denzel Harper, 37, early Sunday morning on firearm charges.

Police said officials responded to the area of 85 Astoria Street for a shot spotter activation just before 3 a.m. Sunday. Officers saw a group of individuals and focused  Harper, who turned away from officers.

When police approached him, they noticed the end of a Republic Arms Patriot sticking out of his right jean shorts pocket. He was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
