Top Red Sox prospects selected to MLB All-Star Futures Game

Major League Baseball has announced the participants of this year’s All-Star Futures Game, and three of Boston’s top prospects were among those selected to the American League roster.

Shortstop Marcelo Mayer and catcher Kyle Teel will each take the field representing the Red Sox, and outfielder Roman Anthony will also take part in the MLB Futures Skills Competition.

Anthony has been designated an inactive selection, but could be added to the active roster in case injury replacements become necessary.

The trio, known within the Red Sox organization as the ‘Big Three,’ are Boston’s most celebrated prospects and are all in the midst of terrific seasons. Mayer was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 draft and is batting .307 in Portland, Teel was the No. 14 overall pick in last summer’s draft and has rapidly risen through the ranks to bat .302 in Double-A, and Anthony was a second-round pick in 2022 who reached Double-A at just 19-years-old last fall.

The three also all rank within the top 25 of MLB Pipeline’s latest prospect rankings, with Anthony coming in at No. 7, Anthony at 14 and Teel at 25.

The MLB All-Star Futures Game annually showcases the top young prospects in baseball, and Mayer was previously selected to the 2023 Futures Game. This year’s game will last seven innings and will take place on Saturday, July 13 at 4 p.m. ET at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
