Bruins deal Jakub Lauko, move up in fourth round
As the trade winds blew throughout at the NHL draft at Sphere in Las Vegas on Saturday, the Bruins got in on act, too.
The B’s moved up 12 spots in the fourth round by moving Jakub Lauko and their fourth round pick (122) to the Minnesota Wild for well-traveled veteran Vinni Lettieri and the 110th pick, with which they took Vermont-born and Quinnipiac-bound left-shot defenseman Elliott Groenewold.
Lauko’s rambunctious style made him something of fan favorite after he surprisingly made the opening night roster for the 2022-23 season. But Lauko, a third round pick in 2018, struggled to make an impact last season, notching just 2-8-10 totals in 60 games after suffering a nasty eye injury last October. With the B’s expected to pick up a forward or two in free agency, there was no guarantee he would make the roster and would have to go through waivers to be sent to Providence.
Lettieri, meanwhile, was in the B’s organization two year ago and had a very good season in Providence (23-26-49 in 48 games). He played 46 games in Minnesota last season, posting 5-4-9 totals.
In 57 games with Cedar Rapid (USHL), the physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound Groeneewold had 5-11-16 totals.
