Boston Police arrest reports from the Celtics NBA championship ‘unruly’ celebration near TD Garden: ‘Their behavior turned volatile’

Cops were certainly busy after the Celtics NBA championship, as thousands of fans gathered in the streets near TD Garden for what turned into an “unruly” celebration with people climbing up light poles and street signs.

Boston Police made eight arrests amid the victory celebration Monday night, including officers arresting a suspect who’s accused of assaulting a cop.

Joseph Cirone, 24, allegedly hit a police officer after the cop reportedly told Cirone that an area outside the Garden was closed to the public.

“The suspect again continued to attempt to walk past Officer Fornash who then placed his hand on the suspect’s chest and once again demanded the male to go back inside,” the police report reads. “The suspect at this point struck Officer Forash with a forearm shiver to his chest and attempted to run.”

A group of cops then converged on Cirone and placed him against the wall, putting him in handcuffs. He was charged with disorderly conduct, as well as assault and battery on a police officer.

Police at halftime of Game 5 had positioned steel barricades at the intersection of Canal Street and Valenti Way to help control the flow of fans and bar patrons. Then after the game, officers reportedly saw 27-year-old Connor Burke approach the exit to Valenti Way and bump into one of the barricades.

“Officer Flynn then observed Burke take a step back, raise his foot and leg and kick the steel barricade to the crowd, affecting the security of the public and officers in the area and recklessly creating public annoyance and alarm,” the police report reads.

Burke was charged with disorderly conduct.

Police also arrested two juveniles following a report of a fight near Causeway and Beverly streets.

“As the Celtics game began to wind down, the crowds at Causeway St and Haverhill St began to grow immensely in size, and their behavior turned volatile,” the police report reads. “As the officers ensured nobody breached the barriers, they observed several individuals climbing light poles and street signs, a ladder onto the signage at the front of the TD Garden parking garage and other unruly behaviors that were spurned on by onlookers.”

An officer reportedly saw a group of young males fight, and asked for help in breaking it up. The juveniles then ran before they were detained. They were both charged with affray and disturbing the peace. One of the juveniles was charged with trespassing.

Police also reported that a suspect wearing a Spiderman costume, identified as 32-year-old Juan Lara, was charged with disorderly conduct.

“Officers observed the large crowd all take out their cellphones and cheer on the Suspect as he drew them closer to the barriers they had set up,” police wrote. “Lara began to twerk on the barrier and jump on top of them causing the large crowd to all gather around him. With the crowd inciting Lara’s antics the Suspect then began to jump over the barrier into the area that was closed to pedestrian traffic.”

Cops also arrested three people near Causeway Street and Lomasney Way. An unidentified person had first climbed on top of the electric pedestrian control signal and fall from it, snapping the electric display panel from the top of the pole.

Another male, later identified as 21-year-old Hayden Freedland, then allegedly grabbed the electric display panel that was hanging from the top of the pole by live wires, and began to smash it against the pole until it began to spark. He was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and malicious destruction of property/vandalism.

Then 30-year-old Tyquan Culbreath allegedly tried to enter a restricted area near the Garden. As he was escorted from the area, he reportedly two-hand shoved a lieutenant detective. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a public employee and disorderly conduct.

Lastly, 21-year-old David Landry reportedly climbed a traffic control signal. He was sitting on the top of the signal, and was ordered multiple times to climb down but refused. Officers then ordered him to climb down, where he was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
