Red Sox stars lag behind in first MLB All-Star voting update

MLB provided its first All-Star voting update on Monday, and so far the Red Sox top candidates aren’t getting much love.

As of now no Red Sox players are in line to finish as finalists at their respective positions, with Rafael Devers the closest in third among American League third basemen.

Devers (342,046) trails Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez (742,910) and Baltimore’s Jordan Westburg (366,670) in the AL third base vote. Among Boston’s other top vote-getters: Connor Wong is eighth among AL catchers (125,553), Triston Casas ninth among AL first basemen (84,628), Masataka Yoshida ninth among AL designated hitters (91,610) and Vaughn Grissom 10th among AL second basemen (49,653).

Surprisingly, there are no Red Sox outfielders currently among the top 20 vote-getters in the AL, not even Jarren Duran, who by all measures as been among the best outfielders in the league so far. Duran currently ranks third among AL outfielders in wins above replacement (3.6), entered Monday with 21 doubles, 17 stolen bases and a league-high 10 triples, and according to Statcast rates as the best baserunner in MLB and as an elite fielder.
