Red Sox lineups: Tyler O’Neill returns, Nick Pivetta to face former team

Tyler O’Neill will return to the Red Sox lineup Wednesday after sitting out the last three games with lingering right knee soreness.

O’Neill, who was removed in the third inning of Friday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, will serve as the designated hitter and bat third in Boston’s second game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Masataka Yoshida will come off the bench, though the plan is for O’Neill to bump back to the outfield and for Yoshida to resume his usual role starting Thursday.

In addition to O’Neill, the Red Sox will also go with an outfield alignment of Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Rob Refsnyder and left, center and right field. Jamie Westbrook will start at second base, Bobby Dalbec will start at first, David Hamilton will play shortstop and Connor Wong will catch.

Nick Pivetta (3-4, 3.40) is set to start for the Red Sox against his former team, facing off against Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sanchez (3-3, 2.71). Pivetta has made one prior start against the Phillies, allowing four earned runs over four innings in a 5-4 loss on July 11, 2021.
