Roughly 86% of teams that stake a 2-0 lead in the Finals go on to win the title. The Celtics hold a 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3 Wednesday. So how can he ensure Boston doesn’t become a losing exception?

“It’s almost like you got to trick your mind almost in a sense. You almost got to play like you’re down 0-2 rather than up. That’s hard to do,” Brown said Tuesday. “You got to go into that mind frame, that focus. … You just try to stay focused and try to harness the mind as much as you can. The mind is a powerful thing.”

The Celtics are 14-2 this postseason, with both losses coming in Game 2. Instead of a letdown, Boston survived its Game 2 bout with Dallas on Sunday, leading for virtually all of the second half. Brown finished the game with a layup at under 30 seconds left that effectively put the Mavericks away for good.

In the Finals, Brown is averaging 21.5 points, five rebounds, 4.5 assists and three steals. His defense has also helped slow Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who is averaging 14 points and has yet to make a 3-pointer.

Jrue Holiday, whose defense has also helped keep Irving under wraps, was asked about the team’s mindset heading into Game 3.

“Trying to be the hungrier team,” he said. “We’re going to go out there and try and execute a game plan, and I think most of us just try and do it together as a team.”
