Vanessa Welch after leaving Boston 25 News has a new job
Former Boston 25 News anchor Vanessa Welch has a new job outside the broadcast TV industry.
Welch — who left the local TV station last month — has joined the financial services provider Empower as Vice President for Financial Insights, the company announced on Tuesday.
She will continue to work in Boston, where one of Empower’s major offices is located.
“It is refreshing to join the Empower team, where there’s a deep-seated commitment to the customer,” Welch said in a statement.
“I believe that in partnership with Empower’s team of professionals, together we can help drive better greater financial literacy and ultimately help people on their path to achieving their financial goals,” she added.
Welch departed Boston 25 after nine years, and 25 years overall in the industry. In her goodbye on air, Welch said she planned to spend more time with her family while taking on a new opportunity.

Welch’s job at Empower is a newly created role.
“… Welch will work in close collaboration with Empower business teams to help stakeholders understand the meaning and implications of financial concepts and how individuals can take action to improve their own financial security,” the company said in a statement.
“Vanessa has all the tools and expertise to help Empower serve as a beacon of clarity and a source of insights to help more people achieve a better understanding of the financial services they need and want,” said Edmund F. Murphy, III, president and CEO for Empower.
