New Caledonia (France) January-May 2024: Dacia (+85.9%) defies market off -24%
Dacia Sandero sales are up 220% year-on-year so far in 2024.
New car sales in New Caledonia, a French overseas archipelago located north east of Australia, drop -24% year-on-year over the first five months of the year to 2,271 units. Toyota (-39.5%) stays on top but freefalls, still selling more than double any other carmaker in the market. Suzuki (-9.7%) is up to #2 vs. #4 over the Full Year 2023, just as Renault (+27.3%), Dacia (+85.9%) and Hyundai (+4.8%) swim upstream with year-on-year gains. The rest of the Top 10 all fall by double-digits, with Citroen (=12%) and Peugeot (-21.8%) keeping their loss below the market rate.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-24.2%) easily keeps the lead with 7.7% share, distancing the Suzuki Swift (+20.7%), Dacia Duster (+63.3%) and Sandero (+220%) all euphoric. The Citroen Berlingo (+8.3%) is also up at #5 but the remainder of the Top 10 drops heavily. The Peugeot 208 (-19%) and Suzuki Jimny (-21.3%) resist somewhat.
