TAG Championship Porsche 930 Turbo Gets 625-HP F1 Engine
Lanzante has unveiled its latest marvel, the TAG Championship Porsche 930 Turbo, a car that merges the classic allure of the 930 Turbo with the heart of a Formula 1 engine. This exclusive British-built restomod is an evolution of Lanzante’s previous efforts, boasting enhancements in both performance and design.
A Tribute to McLaren’s F1 Legacy
Lanzante is creating only three examples of this extraordinary Porsche, each celebrating one of McLaren’s three Formula 1 victories in the 1980s. These limited editions will be revealed at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed. The centerpiece of this creation is the race-used twin-turbocharged 1.5-liter V-6 TAG TTE P01 Formula 1 engine, re-engineered by Cosworth.
Cosworth’s modifications are extensive, including upgraded pistons, valves, and cams, as well as the installation of lightweight titanium turbochargers certified by McLaren. Additional upgrades include a new airbox, enhanced cooling systems, and an improved exhaust. These modifications boost the engine’s output to a staggering 625 horsepower, allowing it to rev up to 10,250 rpm, surpassing the capabilities of previous models.
The power is transmitted through a modified 993-generation six-speed manual transmission with bespoke ratios, enabling the car to achieve a top speed of 200 miles per hour.
Advanced Braking and Lightweight Design
Stopping power is provided by upgraded carbon-ceramic brakes with four-piston calipers on both the front and rear. These are complemented by 18-inch magnesium and carbon wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, ensuring both grip and performance.
In an effort to reduce weight, Lanzante has utilized carbon fiber extensively for the hood, doors, wings, roof, bumpers, and front splitter. This aggressive weight-saving approach has resulted in a vehicle that weighs just 2,028 pounds, which is 948 pounds lighter than the original donor car.
The interior of the TAG Championship Porsche 930 Turbo has been stripped down to save weight. Lanzante has removed electric mirrors and windows, yet retained essential comforts by installing a lightweight climate control system. The cabin features lightweight Recaro seats equipped with six-point harnesses and a suede steering wheel for the driver.
Exclusivity and Cost
The price of the TAG Championship Porsche 930 Turbo has not been disclosed, but given the bespoke bodywork and the irreplaceable F1 engine, it is expected to be a significant investment. This car stands as a testament to Lanzante’s craftsmanship and dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering.
