It was no surprise, then, that his NBA Finals Media Day session featured two more.
Asked how it feels to be so close to the “end of the journey” in the Celtics’ pursuit of a championship, Mazzulla replied: “I mean, I would say this is not the end of the journey. The journey is for however long you’re alive.”
Later, a reporter asked Mazzulla how he stays prepared amid the bright lights of the NBA Finals.
“Yeah, I mean, unless they change the light bulbs in the arenas, they won’t be any brighter than they were the last series,” the coach deadpanned.
Mazzulla has preached throughout the playoffs that winning in the regular season and winning in the postseason require the same ingredients. So, he’s at least consistent in his messaging, even if he often delivers it in unusual ways.
