DETROIT — In a new video posted to his Instagram Tuesday, Eminem is teasing a new single titled “Houdini,” set to arrive Friday.
In the video, Eminem is Facetiming with illusionist David Blaine, and the two contemplate a collaboration.
“How far can we go with this magic? Can we do a stunt or something?” Eminem asks Blaine. The magician, wearing dark shades and a baseball cap, responds by drinking a glass of wine and taking a bite of the glass. In the background, people can be heard gasping in horror.
Eminem responds by saying, “well for my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear.”
“Wait, what?” Blaine responds.
The video ends with the “Houdini” title and a snippet of an instrumental, followed by Friday’s date.
“Houdini” is set to be the first single from Eminem’s upcoming album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” which was announced last month, tied to Eminem’s appearance at the first night of the NFL draft. (The single shares a title a Dua Lipa single, released in November, which was the first offering from her new album, “Radical Optimism.”)
Earlier this month, an obituary for Slim Shady ran in The Detroit News and other newspapers, an analog piece of marketing for the album that ended up going viral.
Last week, Eminem teased a May 31 date on social media with the message, “…and for my last trick!” Fans speculated whether a single was forthcoming, or a track listing for the album, or the full “Death of Slim Shady” set, which hasn’t announced a release date other than “Summer 2024.”
“The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” is Eminem’s 12th studio album, and follows 2020’s “Music to Be Murdered By.”
