Lucas: Condolences unbecoming: US needs to get tough with Iran, not mourn the ‘Butcher of Tehran’

It’s a good thing Joe Biden was not president upon the end of World War II.

Otherwise, he would have sent his condolences to the German people upon the death of Adolph Hitler

It is the same– although on a smaller scale– as sending his condolences to the Iranians when Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a mini-Hitler, was killed in a helicopter crash last week.

Not too many Germans outside of the remaining Nazis, shed a tear when Hitler, the Butcher of Europe, blew his brains out in his Berlin bunker April 30, 1945.

Nor are there many Iranians, outside of the ruling mullahs, shedding a tear over the death of Raisi, the Butcher of Tehran.

“He did not deserve such an easy death, dissident Iranian Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi, said. “Your condolences only pour salt on the wound.

But a more sympathetic Matthew Miller, spokesman for the State Department said, “You don’t want to see anyone die in a helicopter crash.”

In another era, Miller might have said, “You don’t want anyone to blow their head off either, as Hitler did, with a Walther PPK 7.65mm handgun.

Miller is to be forgiven, though, because he was only reflecting the thoughts of his boss Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was only reflecting the thoughts (such as they are) of his boss Joe Biden.

Cornered at a Senate committee hearing last week, Blinken agreed with the State Department statement mourning Raisi’s death.

Blinken said, “We expressed official condolences as we have when countries—adversaries, enemies or not– have lost leaders.”

He added, “It changes not a whit about our policy.”  It was just “the normal course of business.”

That policy is the sucking up to Iranian Muslim leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the mullahs and allowing Iran to get rich by ignoring Trump initiated economic sanctions.

This has enabled Iran to support, finance and train terrorist groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis and kill Americans. It also has allowed it to sell drones and other military equipment to Russia to use against Ukraine.

And part of Biden’s appeasement policy was to have Robert Wood, the deputy U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, stand for a UN motion honoring Raisi with a moment of silence.

It is a wonder Wood did not salute when the UN ordered its flag lowered to half-staff in honor of the serial murderer, or why Biden did not send Blinken to Tehan to attend Raisi’s funeral.

Had Blinken gone to Tehran for the funeral he could have listened up close and personal to the Iranian robots chant “Death to America.”

No matter how craven Biden’s policy is toward Iran, neither Khomeini nor the mullahs around him have softened their plans to launch their first nuclear device on Israel and the second on the U. S.

Raisi, second in command to Khomeini, earned his title as Butcher of Tehran when he led a so-called death commission that order the mass execution of thousands of Iranian political prisoners in 1988 during an aborted revolt.

He also played a key role in the execution of untold number of more Iranians in another crackdown on dissidents in 2019. He did such a bloody job killing Iranian dissidents that Khomeini promoted him.

He was killed along with seven other passengers when the helicopter he was flying in crashed northwestern emoted part of the country.

Perhaps the helicopter was one of the 33 UH-60 choppers Biden left behind—along with $7 billion in other military equipment– for the Taliban when he withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021 and the Taliban then sold it to the Iranians.

Here is the difference between Biden and Donald Trump.

In 2020 when Trump was president, he sent a warning to Iran when he ordered the killing of Iranian Quds Force commanding General Qassem Soleimani with a drone strike outside the airport in Baghdad. Soleimani had been responsible for the death of many Americans and was planning to kill more.

In 2024, Biden sent a message of condolence to Iran for the accidental death of Raisi, who is also responsible for killing Americans and planning to kill more.

Take your pick.
