CLASS NOTES
Due to a violation of a National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) softball rule by member schools, King Philip and Hanover have been forced to forfeit several games. According to the MIAA website, King Philip had to forfeit six games, while Hanover forfeited three due to a violation of NFHS Rule 1-8-1, which states that “Non-traditional
playing equipment must be reviewed by the NFHS Softball Rules Committee before it
will be permitted to be used.” In addition, NFHS rule 1-8-6 also states: “During the
game, the use of electronic devices by team personnel to transmit or record
information pertaining to their players or team’s performance shall be permitted for
coaching purposes within the team’s dugout/bench area only, provided the point of
origin of electronic communication is outside of the field of play.”
NFHS Softball did NOT approve coach-to-player electronic communication for 2024. Per
MIAA Rule 79.1, MIAA softball is played under the rules of the NFHS. MIAA member schools must forfeit any game(s) in which a rule violation was committed.
