Double shooting reported at Cambridge field, woman found by basketball courts: Police adding extra patrols

Police are investigating a double shooting at a Cambridge field after an injured woman was found by the basketball courts and a shot man was located nearby.

Cambridge Police are adding extra patrols to the area near Donnelly Field “out of an abundance of caution” following the double shooting there Thursday night.

Police officers responded to the field at 91 Berkshire St., for reports of multiple gunshots at around 9:39 p.m.

Cops at the scene found a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, who were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both individuals are Cambridge residents.

“The female victim was in the basketball courts and the male victim was found a short distance away on Willow Street,” police said in a statement. “There were no other injuries reported.”

Multiple shell casings were found at the scene. Police did not immediately make any arrests.

Detectives continued to investigate the incident.

“Cambridge Police believe this was an isolated event, but we will be staffing the area with extra patrols out of an abundance of caution,” police said. “Residents are reminded to call 911 immediately if they ever feel threatened or observe any suspicious activity.”
