Rafael Devers breaks Red Sox record with homer in 6th consecutive game
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In his second at-bat against Tampa Bay Rays starter Taj Bradley on Monday night, Rafael Devers achieved a Red Sox first.
The third baseman sent one a 97 mph four-seamer 382 feet into the left-field seats for his franchise-record sixth consecutive game with a home run.
Jimmie Foxx (1940), Ted Williams (’57), Dick Stuart (’63), George Scott (’77), Jose Canseco (’95), and Bobby Dalbec (2020) had each homered in five straight.
With his sixth, Devers stands alone. (He’s the first Major Leaguer to achieve the feat since Mike Trout in 2022.)
During this six-game stretch, he also overtook Nomar Garciaparra for No. 12 on the Red Sox all-time home run list. He’s 11 round-trippers away from tying longtime captain and current coach, Jason Varitek.
Devers is also three extra-base hits away from taking away Jim Rice’s franchise record for the most by a Red Sox player before turning 28. (Devers turns 28 in October, so there’s a pretty good chance he breaks Rice’s record and then some.)
