Jerod Mayo has seen encouraging early signs from Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye
FOXBORO — Drake Maye’s work ethic has already made an impression on Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo.
Maye wrapped up his first practice with Patriots veteran players Monday at organized team activities, but he was able to get on the Gillette Stadium fields earlier this month at rookie minicamp.
Mayo was asked before Monday’s practice sessions what kind of progress he saw from Maye in rookie minicamp.
“Yeah, I thought Drake did a great job not only progressing on the field, but also off the field,” Mayo said about his new quarterback. “You can already tell like he is going to put in that extra work. You know, I walked by the quarterback meeting room, he’s just in there by himself, watching film. Those are the things that you want to see. I am excited to see his growth going forward.
Maye took reps behind Patriots veteran quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe on Monday. The rookie will have to impress on the field to move up the Patriots depth chart before Week 1 against the Bengals.
