Red Sox lineups: Vaughn Grissom set to face old team as Sox take on Braves

Vaughn Grissom only just made his Red Sox debut this past weekend, but the 23-year-old second baseman is already set to face off against his former team.

Grissom is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Braves, batting fifth and playing second base against the NL East powerhouse. Grissom was originally a highly-touted prospect in the Braves system but couldn’t garner regular playing time in Atlanta’s loaded infield, which features an All-Star at every position. The Red Sox acquired Grissom this past winter in exchange for Chris Sale, who the Red Sox will face on Wednesday.

Tuesday will also mark the latest outing for starting pitcher Kutter Crawford, who has been among the best pitchers in baseball through the first month-plus. He enters with a 2-1 record and a 1.56 ERA over 40.1 innings through his first seven starts, and his ERA ranks second in MLB behind only Toronto’s Jose Berrios (1.44) among qualified starters.

Atlanta will counter with Reynaldo Lopez, who actually has a better ERA (1.50) over fewer innings (30) but has been similarly dominant through his first five starts. He’ll be looking to help stop the Braves’ recent skid, as Atlanta comes in having lost five of their last six, including a weekend sweep at the hands of the Dodgers.
