Young girl dies in Middleboro house fire, 3 others injured
A young girl was killed in a Middleboro home fire early Saturday morning and three others were injured, authorities said in a statement.
Firefighters arrived at 27 Pearl St. around 2 a.m. for a report of a building fire with people trapped inside. First responders found “heavy fire” coming from the first and second floors of the home.
“They made an aggressive attack to prevent extension to nearby buildings,” the Middleborough Fire and Police Departments said in a statement.
Firefighters tried to get into the home to rescue the young girl who was still inside but “they were unable to get inside the home due to heavy fire conditions,” authorities said. Once the fire was put out, the girl was found dead inside the home, first responders said.
An adult female was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with burn injuries that “appeared to be serious” while an adult male and another young girl were both taken by ambulance to local hospitals “with less severe injuries,” authorities said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
