Seconds from their longest winning streak of the year, Wild collapse late
Less than a minute from extending their winning streak to a season-high five games, the Wild collapsed Saturday.

With a 2-1 lead on new blue liner Declan Chisholm’s first NHL goal, the Wild surrendered the tying goal to former teammate Jordan Greenway with 36 seconds left in regulation, and the winning goal to Henri Jokiharju just 1:29 into the three-on-three overtime in a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres at Xcel Energy Center.
Joel Eriksson Ek picked up a rebound off a Kirill Kaprizov shot to tie the score 1-1 four minutes into the third period, and Filip Gustavsson stopped 25 of 28 shots. But Buffalo won the final two minutes of play to pull two points out of their hat.
The Wild won the overtime faceoff and kept possession for more than a minute before an errant pass started a breakout the other way for the Sabres. Jokiharju scored on a quick wrist shot from the high slot to end it at 1:29.
Eden Prairie’s Casey Mittelstadt put the Sabres up 1-0 just 39 seconds into the third period, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 32 saves for Buffalo, which won for just the second time in five games.
Chisholm, 24, had played only four NHL games in two seasons with Winnipeg, two this season, and only six games at Manitoba in November. Saturday’s game was his eighth action of the season. He scored on a wrist shot from above the left circle with 17 seconds left in a four-minute power play.
With Connor Clifton in the box with a double-minor for high-sticking Jake Middleton, and drawing blood, Marco Rossi won a late faceoff and kicked the puck to Marcus Johansson — who kicked it back to Chisholm, running the second power-play unit.
Chisholm fired into traffic, but the puck floated untouched past Luukkonen to make it 2-1 with 8:39 remaining in the game.
Buffalo, however, pulled Luukkonen for an extra attacker, and former Wild winger Greenway tied the game with 36 seconds left with a goal from a scrum in front of Gustavsson.
