Boston College blitzes Louisville, 89-77, with impressive team effort
Boston College played exceptional team basketball to pull out an 89-77 victory over Louisville on Tuesday night at Conte Forum.
BC improved to 14-10 and 5-8 in the ACC and will host Miami on Saturday afternoon at 4. BC shot 57% from the floor with 11 three-point shots, 28 rebounds and 21 assists with six players in double figures. BC outscored Louisville 50-30 in the second half.
Guard Claudell Harris paced BC with 20 points and four treys, while big men Quinten Post and Devin McGlockton combined for 36 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield led the Cardinals with 20 points and nine boards.
“We were helping each other get good open shots and turning down a good shot to make a great shot,” said BC coach Earl Grant. “We were just really connected in terms of working together to get shots and score.”
Down by eight at the half, BC tied the game 54-54 on consecutive treys by Post and Harris into the first media timeout. BC took its first lead of the half, 56-54, on a floater in the paint with 14:21 to play. BC extended the run and took a 62-55 lead on a pull up jumper by Harris with 12:19 to play.
“I definitely feel confident taking the shots,” said Harris. “My teammates have confidence in me and they find me. When we do need big shots and time is running down the coaches trust me to make shots like that.”
BC took advantage of a flagrant foul and points off turnover to take a 68-55, prompting Cardinals’ coach Kenny Payne to call timeout. Guard Donald Hand came off the bench and scored eight straight points to give BC 74-62 lead into the third media timeout.
Louisville cut the lead to 76-70 on a three-point play by Kaleb Glenn and two from the line by Tre White with 5:08 to play. Harris busted the run with a 3-ball, but Louisville continued to press and attack the paint. BC closed it on consecutive 3-pointers by Mason Madsen and Harris that made it 87-73 with 55 seconds on the clock.
