Austria January 2024: VW Golf signs first win in almost 3 years
The VW Golf is the most popular vehicle in Austria in January.
It’s a weak start of the year for the Austrian new car market with sales off -6.9% year-on-year to 17,552. Volkswagen (-25%) stays on top of the brands ranking despite a steep fall to 13.4% share. Skoda (+2.2%) defines the negative market to climb to 11.7% share vs. 8.8% last month. BMW (+24.8%) and Audi (+16.3%) do even better and ensure the Top 4 brands are identical to the FY2023 ranking. Seat (-38.6%) is in difficulty year-on-year but posts a strong 6.1% share vs. 5% over the FY2023, Dacia (+42.3%) surges to #6 overall with 5.2% share, its third Top 6 finish in the past four months. Suzuki (+78.2%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10 and lodges the largest year-on-year gain among the 16 best-selling carmakers.
In the models ranking, the VW Golf (+53.2%) surges to pole position for its first monthly win since May 2021. Leader over the the Full Year 2023, the Skoda Octavia (+34.8%) also shines and ends the month in 2nd place with 3.6% share vs. 2.9% in FY2023. In fact the entire Top 6 score positive results, with the Dacia Sandero (+37.7%) the most dynamic above the Dacia Duster (+21.6%), Tesla Model Y (+10.5%) and Seat Ibiza (+9.5%). The BMW X1 (+9.3%) and VW Bus (+78.6%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, notice the BMW i4 (+355.3%), Audi A6 (+191.9%) and Q8 (+128%).
