Grammys 2024: The big moments people will be talking about

When it came to the 66th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, there were quite a few moments that had people talking.

Taylor Swift won big. She became the first person to win album of the year four times. Earlier in the night after winning pop vocal album, she announced her upcoming new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.

Joni Mitchell blew away the audience with her first-ever Grammy performance at 80 years old, which comes after years of rehabilitation following a near-fatal brain aneurysm. She won the Grammy for best folk album with “Joni Mitchell at Newport.”

Tina Turner’s presence was felt throughout the evening. Miley Cyrus performed “Flowers” after winning her first Grammy, which had many seeing inspiration from the late Turner.

Additionally, Fantasia Barrino led a tribute to Turner with a performance of “Proud Mary,” the Creedence Clearwater Revival song written by John Fogerty that Turner transformed into a showstopper of her own. Fans online were also quick to point out that it was the same song Fantasia had auditioned with for the third season of “American Idol” which she won in 2004.

Jay-Z received the Global Impact Award Grammy and brought his and Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy, to join him on the stage. During his acceptance speech, he addressed the fact that Beyoncé has won the most Grammys of anyone, but has never won Album of the Year.

Billy Joel returned to the Grammys after decades away to perform “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first new song in 17 years. The last time Joel performed at the Grammys was in 2002 when he took the stage with Tony Bennett to perform “New York State of Mind.”

Celine Dion shocked the crowd at Crypto.com Arena and viewers at home when she took the stage to present album of the year to Swift. Dion took some time away from the spotlight at the end of 2022 when she shared she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a “rare autoimmune neurological disorder.”
