Taiwan January 2024: Toyota Yaris Cross up to #4, MG HS at #6 in market up 58.8%

The Toyota Yaris Cross is up to 4th place in Taiwan in January.

New car sales in Taiwan grow 28.8% in January to 44,821 units as the Lunar New Year holiday falls in February this year. Toyota (+3.5%) vastly trails the market but holds its own market share-wise at 27.4% vs. 27.1% over the Full Year 2023. The reason being a particularly high year-ago score. Honda (+95.7%) almost doubles its volume year-on-year to stay in 2nd place while Mercedes (+28.5%) is up five spots on December to #3. Lexus (+87.2%), Hyundai (+67.1%) and MG (+232.6%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Ford (-11.6%) and BMW (-7.7%) struggle.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla Cross (-1%) easily retains the top spot with 7.1% share, this time distancing the Toyota Town Ace at +26.7%. The Honda CR-V (+63.7%) catches up on lost time at #3 while the event of the month is the 4th place of the new Toyota Yaris Cross with 4.1% share. Also notable is the record 6th place of the MG HS (+123.1%) just as the Lexus NX (+153%) is back inside the Top 10 at #8. Below, the CMC Zinger (+223.4%), Hyundai Tucson (+212.9%) and Mercedes GLC (+155.6%) also post surreal gains. The MG ZS is up to #15 vs. #47 over the Full Year 2023.
