High school football roundup: Bollinger tosses five TD passes to lead Cretin-Derham Hall into section final

Class 5A

Cretin-Derham Hall 49, Central 17: Miles Bollinger threw five touchdown passes — two to Monteff Dixon — while Tommy Sticha scored a pair of touchdowns on his own as the Raiders moved into the Section 4 final, where they’ll meet top-seeded Mahtomedi.

Bollinger completed 8 of 10 passes for 215 yards.

Second-seeded Central (7-3) jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard scoring plunge from Lavontae Cox in the opening frame, but the third-seeded Raiders (5-5) responded with 21 points in the second frame.

Cretin-Derham Hall has won four straight games after falling to 1-5 in the middle of the fall.

Mahtomedi 47, Tartan 14: In the first quarter alone, Charles Brandt completed three touchdown passes to Michael Barry tallying 124 yards. In that same frame, Cole Saenger ran in a touchdown and recorded a safety on defense.

Mahtomedi (5-4) will host Cretin-Derham Hall in the Section 4 final after defeating the Raiders 34-18 earlier this month.

Jerror Borsay tallied both touchdowns for Tartan (3-7) — a 17-yard run and a 94-yard kickoff return.

Bloomington Jefferson 17, Apple Valley 13: Jonathan Weber rushed in the go-ahead touchdown from nine yards out with 74 seconds to play to push the second-seeded Jaguars (8-1) through to the Section 3 final, where they’ll face St. Thomas Academy.

Apple Valley (4-6) trailed 10-0 with a minute to play in the third, but rallied to take the lead on the strength of a pair of Jackson Thornburgh touchdown passes.

Class 4A

Chisago Lakes 31, Simley 7: Simley’s Class 4A state title defense came to a crashing halt Saturday. The Spartans (6-4) struck first on an 11-yard scoring strike from Timothy Pietsch to Andre Levros. It was all Wildcats from there.

Carson Langevin ran in a pair of scores for Chisago Lakes (8-2).

Hill-Murray 51, Johnson 0: The Pioneers (7-2) will host Chisago Lakes next week in the Section 4 title game after the section’s top seed tallied 42 second-quarter points Saturday.

Jackson Reeves threw three touchdown passes in that quarter alone. Xavier Daniels added two rushing touchdowns in the win.

Class 3A

Holy Family 35, St. Croix Lutheran 28: Holy Family (7-3) will play for a section title in Dan O’Brien’s first year at the helm after Tanner Davis rushed in the game-winning score — his second touchdown of the day — from five yards out with 21 seconds to play.

Gavin Frye also threw a pair of touchdowns to Keiji Suggs.

Andrew Beekman tallied two touchdowns for St. Croix Lutheran (5-5), including a touchdown that knotted the contest with 6 minutes, 36 seconds to play.
