Ketel Marte
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Tuesday that the Red Sox are among the teams interested in Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte.
A three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner, Marte is among the best second basemen in the game and is coming off a standout season in which he batted .283 with 28 home runs, 72 RBI, an .893 OPS and 4.4 wins above replacement. He is also a switch hitter and would be an obvious upgrade for the Red Sox infield, which does not currently have an entrenched starter at second.
Marte, 32, has six years and $102.5 million remaining on his contract, $41 million of which is deferred. The downside to Marte is he has had some issues in the clubhouse during his time in Arizona. Last season he reportedly irked some teammates when he returned to the Dominican Republic and missed the first three games after the All-Star Break after his home in Arizona was burglarized. Marte has also only appeared in 140 games once in the past five seasons.
Alex Bregman, Isaac Parades
In his same report, Rosenthal also said Alex Bregman remains the Red Sox’s No. 1 target and that the club has expressed interest in Houston Astros infielder Isaac Parades.
Parades, who has two more seasons of club control remaining, is coming off a 2025 season in which he batted .254 with 20 home runs, 53 RBI and an .809 OPS.
The 26-year-old primarily plays third base but also has experience at first, and Rosenthal said the Astros would likely seek controllable starting pitching in return, including rising standouts like Connelly Early and Payton Tolle.
Eugenio Suarez
Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reported Tuesday following Kyle Schwarber’s re-signing with the Phillies that the Red Sox have had conversations “with and about” Eugenio Suarez, either as a fallback option at third base in case Bregman signs elsewhere or as a first base possibility should Bregman return.
Suarez would certainly provide the power bat the Red Sox are seeking. The 34-year-old hit 49 home runs this past season split between the Diamondbacks and Mariners, and he’s hit 30 or more home runs in six of the past seven 162-game seasons overall.
Suarez also bats right-handed, which would play well at Fenway Park, though his .298 on-base percentage from 2025 is lower than you’d typically prefer out of a middle of the order hitter.
