David Pastrnak termed game-time decision for Bruins
David Pastrnak is inching closer to a return, so much so that he was termed a “game-time decision” by coach Marco Sturm for the Bruins’ matchup against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Tuesday night (8 p.m.)
But it did sound like the team would err on the side of caution.
“Talking to David today and the medical staff, we just want to make sure that he’s 100 percent. If we (have to) take another two, three, four days, we’ll take it. We just want to make sure,” Sturm told reporters in St. Louis after the morning skate.
Pastrnak has not played since the B’s beat the Islanders on Thanksgiving Eve after he injured himself late in the game. He appeared to grab at his hip/side/upper leg area.
The B’s are 3-2 in his absence.
“Same as (Monday) just another good practice. I expect to play on the trip and we’ll see how it will be. We’ll see what happens tonight,” said Pastrnak.
“I’ve had two good skates with the group and I’m feeling comfortable. It’s been good, so we’ll see for tonight.”
Players often say that a night or two in the press box helps them gain perspective on the game. Pastrnak is not one of those players.
“I don’t want to judge the game from the ninth floor. It looks way too easy up there and way too slow and it’s way harder and faster on the ice. I won’t judge the game from the ninth floor,” he said flatly.
If he’s deemed available, Pastrnak would be the only returning player, said Sturm. Charlie McAvoy is also on the trip and working his way toward a comeback. He’s been out of the lineup since taking a Noah Dobson slapshot to the face.
Though Joonas Korpisalo played well in the B’s win over the Blues last Thursday in making 38 saves despite the rare lopsided win, Jeremy Swayman will get the nod in net.
After they lost to the B’s, Jim Montgomery’s Blues followed the loss up with two wins in Ottawa in Montreal that were helpful to the B’s.
“They got some wins under their belt after we played them last,” said Pastrnak. “I for sure expect much better from them and they’re going to be coming back home from the road trip where they’ve been getting some wins and we know we’re going to see their best.”
The Blues will be without one of their top offensive players, Jordan Kyrou, who is out with a lower body injury.
