Two Uponor campuses in Dakota County earn Governor’s Safety Awards

Uponor, a global plumbing solutions company, was recognized this week by the Minnesota Safety Council with two Governor’s Safety Awards.

The company’s Apple Valley campus won its fifth Governor’s Safety Award, this year in bronze, and the Lakeville distribution center won its fourth award, this year at the highest level of Diamond, according to a company news release.

The Finnish company, which employs some 3,600 people, works to move water through cities, buildings and homes. Its North American headquarters are located in Apple Valley.

The 90-year-old Governor’s Safety Award recognizes employers for protecting their employees from injuries, illness and accidents.

Uponor recently launched a People First strategy that aims to reduce its lost-time incident frequency rate by 30 percent every year. The company reduced that rate by 48 percent in 2023, according to Jon Sillerud, vice president of integrated supply chain for Uponor.

Other east metro winners of the Governor’s Safety Award include Northern Tool and Equipment of Burnsville and Jostens of Eagan in the Diamond level, Marathon Petroleum of St. Paul Park in the Gold level and International Paper of Arden Hills in the Silver level.
